Policy and Membership Coordinator/Marketing and Outreach Coordinator

Applications are being accepted for the position of Ohio Soybean Association Policy and Membership Coordinator (50%) and Ohio Soybean Council Marketing and Outreach Coordinator (50%). Please see the position description below for specific responsibilities.

The Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) is a member-driven grassroots organization dedicated to improving the business climate for Ohio soybean producers. OSA’s mission is to provide leadership for Ohio's soybean producers in promoting effective policies and legislation to ensure a growing and profitable soybean industry. OSA is governed by a board of soybean producers and soybean industry partners.

The Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) is the Qualified State Soybean Board for Ohio. OSC’s mission is to invest Ohio soybean checkoff funds to maximize the profit opportunities for Ohio soybean producers.  OSC is governed by a board of Ohio soybean producers.

Position Description

Ohio Soybean Association Policy and Membership Coordinator – 50% – Responsibilities:

Coordinate OSA legislative and policy program, in cooperation with OSA Board and Executive Director

  • Assist in developing OSA policy priorities
  • Work with elected officials to influence policy decisions at state and national level
  • Coordinate annual legislative visits for OSA Board Members and staff with state and national elected officials
  • Work as part of team to manage Ohio Soy Political Action Committee
  • Work cooperatively with other Ohio commodity and agriculture organizations on Ohio policy issues, and with the American Soybean Association on national policy issues

Coordinate annual OSA membership campaign

  • Develop member benefit packages
  • Organize member outreach and education events
  • Identify existing ag events to highlight OSA and drive membership

Organize OSA participation in statewide, regional and national programs and events

  • Plan annual Ohio Grain Farmers Symposium, in cooperation with other Ohio Soybean staff and staff from the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association
  • Assist with OSA corporate relations and advertising program
  • Attend national meetings organized by the American Soybean Association
  • Plan Ohio policy delegation participation at the annual Commodity Classic Convention
  • Assist with planning of annual Harvest Classic fundraiser

Provide staffing assistance to OSA Board of Trustees, in coordination with Executive Director

  • Provide ongoing communication and interaction with board members regarding policy and membership issues
  • Provide staffing and coordination for OSA standing committees
  • Assist in planning OSA board meetings
  • Assist in developing annual OSA budget

 

Ohio Soybean Council Marketing and Outreach Coordinator – 50% – Responsibilities:

Coordinate OSC marketing initiatives, under supervision of other OSC staff

  • Work on OSC projects and partnerships related to Ohio’s animal agriculture industry
  • Work on OSC projects and coordinate OSC outreach related to soy biodiesel

Coordinate OSC outreach to Ohio soybean industry, in cooperation with other OSC staff

  • Coordinate OSC outreach program to Ohio ag industry partners, including cooperatives, grain merchandising and processing companies, seed companies, equipment providers and other suppliers
  • Organize farmer outreach and education events
  • Work as part of OSC team to plan OSC participation in major events such as the Ohio State Fair and Farm Science Review
  • Plan OSC participation in annual Ohio Grain Farmers Symposium

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years of legislative and policy experience
  • Familiarity with agriculture and farming preferred
  • Familiarity with trade associations and member-based organizations
  • Experience using social media applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Ability to travel frequently as needed, both within and outside Ohio
