Because everyone deserves to go home from work each day, we have come together as an industry to take a stand for safety.
The National Stand Up for Grain Safety Week sponsored by the Alliance, a collaboration of agricultural industry groups, provides a collective industry focus on, and commitment to safety.
SMALL CHANGES. BIG IMPACT.
Every year hundreds of employees are injured or die from preventable hazards while working in grain storage and handling. Safety doesn’t need to be big to be effective.
This year commit to safety by making small changes in the workplace or how tasks are performed to make a positive safety impact.

This year’s Kick-Off will once again be a Hybrid event hosted by Central States Center for Agricultural Safety & Health (CS-CASH) at the Eastern Nebraska Research and Extension Center. Moderated by Barb Grove of GEAPS, the event will feature live demonstrations by Dr. Carol Jones of Oklahoma State University and Aaron Yoder of CS/CASH/University of Nebraska Medical Center on augers & machine guarding, bin safety and Lock Out/Tag Out for non-electrical power sources.
Sponsored by GHSC
All sessions will be conducted on a Zoom meeting platform with opportunities to interact with the presenters. A single registration platform will be used for “one-stop” convenience.
Join Jason Moore of Thompson Electric as he discusses electrical hazards found in grain facilities, including arc flash, mislabeled electrical circuits, and electrical Lock Out/Tag Out.
With more extreme weather conditions from floods to extreme temperatures, Dr. Aaron Yoder and GHSC will provide an overview of heat stress and other weather hazards faced by workers and the best strategies to protect them whether working in the fields, the grain facility, or the feedlot.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) offers workers extra protection when completing job tasks and sometimes is the ONLY protection against a hazard. Ellen Duysen, MPH of CS-CASH and GHSC will explore the how’s and why’s of PPE, including innovations in PPE design.
Join industry favorite John Lee and GHSC as they look at the myriad of hazards encountered during loading and unloading of grain in trucks, dump pits, rail cars, etc. including STFs and crush/struck by hazards.
The pandemic has not only changed the way we do business, but also emphasized the need to understand just what infectious diseases are and how to protect our workplace, food supply chain, and most of all, our families. GHSC and CS-CASH will present two (2) bonus sessions during the week on infectious disease awareness, including one in Spanish. This session goes beyond covid-19 and looks at the different types of infectious diseases which can affect our workforce, and the strategies to keep germs from passing between our different life environments – work, home, school, community.
