OABA Signs Letter to USDA Secretary Perdue
The Ohio AgriBusiness Association, along with other state agricultural organizations, has signed a letter to USDA Secretary Sonny Purdue requesting clear guidance on long-term assistance plans to help farmers with 2019 planting decisions. The letter raises concerns of delayed planting issues and a rapidly emerging livestock feed crisis, and calls on the USDA to immediately make the following provisions for 2019:
- Allow planting and normal harvest, that includes making silage and baleage, and grazing of forage crops/cover crops on prevent plant acreage for 2019 without penalty and without date restrictions.
- Allow harvest, that includes making silage and baleage, and grazing of forages on CRP ground and all eligible acres for 2019 without penalty and date restrictions.
