USDA Releases Its 2011 Pesticide Data Program Annual Summary

Report Confirms the Safety of U.S. Food Supply

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released its 2011 Pesticide Data Program Annual Summary, a report which provides valuable insight into the quality of the American food system by examining pesticide residue levels for a number of products.

USDA states in its news release that the report “confirms that U.S. food does not pose a safety concern based upon pesticide residues.” The 2011 report re-affirms the results that have been released by PDP in years past: overall pesticide residues found on foods tested are at levels well below the tolerances set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

CropLife America has developed an Issue Summary of the report and talking points. They have also provided a toolkit, “Communicating the Safety of Our Food Supply,” which discusses the issues of produce, pesticide residue and human health safety in a frank and easy-to-digest format.
