OABA Signs Letter to FMCSA Supporting Driver Pilot Program for 18-20 Year Olds

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association, with 45 state and national organizations, has signed a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in support of a pilot program to allow truck drivers aged 18-20 to drive across state lines.

While 49 states already allow Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders 18, 19 and 20 years old to operate CMVs in intrastate commerce, the signers of the letter strongly support the opportunity to further demonstrate that training and driver development are more critical than merely making eligibility determinations based upon a driver’s age.
