The Grain Safety Training Center Committee is excited to announce a new training schedule for 2019. For the first time, the 4-day, 40-hour High Angle & Confined Space Work/Rescue Class will be held over two consecutive weekends. The first half training or first two day training classes will be held Saturday April 27 and Sunday April 28. The second half training and second two day training classes will be held the next weekend, Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5. Conducted by the Safety and Technical Rescue Association (SATRA), and led by professional firefighters, participants will learn about issues surrounding grain bins, OSHA standards, air monitoring and more. They will also build practical skills, like rope and harness work, during the first two days to prepare them for more advanced scenarios in later sessions. During days three and four, first responders will learn rescue procedures using grain bins at the Mercer Landmark facility. Firefighters will work in teams of eight to plan and lead rescues in the bins, with SATRA teachers on-site to monitor and check participants’ work. At the conclusion of the training, participants will work through an entire rescue scenario, from the first call through the grain bin rescue.
