2013 4R Advocate Program and Nomination Form

Nominations Due by November 12

4R messages from the fertilizer industry are well received; however, engaging agricultural producers and sharing 4R success stories from the field also plays a critical role in adoption of 4R nutrient stewardship. Following this year’s successful 2012 4R Advocate Program, The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) is now opening nominations for the 2013 award process.

The 4R Advocate Program relies on fertilizer retailers nominating grower clients in recognition of their efforts to implement 4R consistent practices. Last year, five growers and their nominating retailers were honored and awarded a trip to the Commodity Classic. Knowing that growers often listen to their peers, winners spent time in the 4R Commodity Classic expo booth and shared how they implement the 4Rs. Winner interviews were used to create a “4R Advocated in Action” video. For details on last year’s winners and to view the 2012 4R Advocate video, visit http://www.nutrientstewardship.com/4r-advocate.

TFI considers retailer and grower participation in the nomination process part of the 4R outreach effort. The nomination process provides an opportunity to further educate retailers about nutrient stewardship and is an opportunity to recognize growers that are applying the 4R principles. In accordance with the program rules, 2013 4R Advocate grower winners, a grower guest and the winning nominating retailers will receive an expense-paid trip to the 2013 Commodity Classic in Kissimmee, FL where they can assist TFI by sharing their experiences adopting 4R principles.

Retail entities can nominate multiple growers; however, TFI suggests multi-outlet entities use an internal vetting process to select the best nominations for submission. The nomination form and program rules are attached; additional details on 4R nutrient stewardship can be found on the 4R website at http://www.nutrientstewardship.com/.

Nominations (click here for the nomination form) will be accepted through November 12and should be submitted to Lara Moody (lmoody@tfi.org). Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and winners will be announced in mid-December.
