GEAPS Seaway Chapter to Host Bin Entry & Technical Rescue Training Program

August 21–24, 2012 in Sidney

The GEAPS Seaway Chapter is hosting the third annual Bin Entry & Technical Rescue training program from August 21–24, 2012 at the Trupointe Cooperative, Inc. and Cargill facilities in Sidney, OH. This year’s four-day program will focus on grain bin safety and technical rescue procedures specific to commercial grain companies. This training is also highly valuable to fire departments for on-farm rescues.

Data provided by Bill Field, Ed.D, Agricultural Safety and Health Program Professor with Purdue University, showed a 47-percent decrease in the number of reported entrapments and a 69-percent decrease in fatalities related to entrapments in 2011.

Grain entrapment is a preventable incident, and the problem can be addressed through the use of appropriately designed storage facilities, proper use of personal protective equipment, implementation of safe work practices and having effective emergency response capabilities in place.
