OABA Congratulates Secretary Sonny Purdue on Appointment to USDA

Perdue E1491493143259The Ohio AgriBusiness Association congratulates Secretary Sonny Perdue on his appointment to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Secretary Perdue was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 24 by a 87-11 vote.

Former Georgia Governor Perdue grew up on a farm in central Georgia and has owned several agriculture companies. OABA welcomes the agribusiness experience and leadership Perdue will bring to the USDA.

Perdue is strongly committed to agricultural trade and recognizes the important role it plays in enhancing U.S. economic growth, job creation and the vitality of rural communities. Trade will be an important issue as the administration begins renegotiating free trade deals, including the North American Free Trade Agreement, and reengages in Asia-Pacific trade discussions. Perdue also is a fierce advocate of regulatory reform and is committed to rolling back regulatory excesses within the federal government that have undermined the competitiveness and efficiency of America's farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses.
