Learn Why H.R. 1599 is Necessary in Less than 5 Minutes

The American Feed Industry Association, in an effort to simplify H.R. 1599--the Safe & Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015--presents an informational "quick clip," created by Paul Keppy, AFIA government affairs specialist. The video educates industry professionals and consumers alike about the impacts of H.R. 1599 on agriculture, specifically animal food labeling.

H.R. 1599 creates a pre-market review of genetically modified products in coordination between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The bill establishes a consistent and voluntary non-GM labeling certification process by USDA, instructs FDA to define the term "natural" and prevents stigmatization of an important and safe technology in agriculture.

Harmonizing state feed laws/regulations was one of AFIA's founding purposes more than a century ago, and AFIA continues that effort by actively working with hundreds of other associations and businesses today. Recently, as seen in this Coalition for Safe Affordable Food letter, AFIA worked with more than 475 state and national food and agriculture organizations and companies urging a "yes" vote on H.R. 1599.
